Nagambie Gold has recently taken up a stand at the very popular Violet Town Community Market . The market is held on the second Saturday of each month and we have had a very positive response from visitors from all over Central Victoria.

Across the weekend of 7-8 October, Nagambie Gold was open to the public for the first time as part of the Farm Gates & Shed Doors event, organized by the Goulburn River & Ranges group. We welcomed visitors from Nagambie, Seymour , Melbourne , Bendigo and even Canberra , to our grove for an olive oil tasting and a crash course in olive cultivation.

As the year quickly races to its end, Nagambie Gold will be participating in several market events. As well as a great day out, these occasions provide several opportunities for you to purchase Nagambie Gold Extra Virgin Olive Oil and other related treats in time for Christmas.

2005 Harvest

Double Line

The 2005 harvest was a great success and marked the beginning of the mechanical age at Nagambie Gold. With our crop increasing from one tonne in 2004 to five tonnes, mechanical harvesters from South Australia for the first time replaced hand picking of our olives. The harvesters use vibrations to remove the ripe olives from the trees, catching them in an umbrella-like canvas which surrounds the tree. The olives are pressed within 24 hours of picking at Kyneton.

This year, we introduced a single varietal Correggiola extra virgin olive oil to our range; the oil displays sharp Australian features including a strong peppery finish and robust flavours. Available at Oliv, Hawthorn and The Olive Shop, Queen Victoria Markets. Click here for more information.

2005 also marked the launch Nagambie Gold's four litre tins. For those who find that they use olive oil regularly, the four litre tin is great value and can easily be decanted into smaller containers for everyday use. Available at Fruit Nest, Malvern, The Olive Shop, Queen Victoria Market and Goulburn Terrace, Nagambie. Click here for more information.

Nagambie Gold is proud to be the exclusive supplier to The Wetlands Café at the famous Tahbilk Winery and to Goulburn Terrace, Nagambie. Local support for Nagambie Gold has been fantastic.

We are also pleased to announce our inclusion in several industry and tourist publications. Look out for A Guide to Australian Olive Oil 2006 which features Nagambie Gold and over 50 other olive oil producers from across Australia . The guide also included recipes from renouned chef Simon Humble, owner of Tutto Bene at Melbourne 's Southbank. Available at Oliv, Hawthorn, or contact us for a copy.

In December, the Caper Berry Café in Yamba, on the northern New South Wales coast, became Nagambie Gold's first interstate stockist. We're very excited to have this new outlet, especially in the beautiful town of Yamba . It's worth a visit! Click here for The Caper Berry Café's address.

2004 Harvest

Double Line

2004 marked the first commercial harvest of Extra Virgin Olive Oil at Nagambie. Good rains last September have seen Nagambie Gold's 2004 harvest produce two bold olive oils. Leading up to picking in May, dry conditions meant that the olives - including Correggiola, Frantoio and Manzanilla - have thrived in the Goulburn Valley.

Bottles on tableIts Mediterranean style climate has encouraged the growth of a rich wine culture, making the area ideal for farming high quality olives.

Over two weekends, friends and family gathered by the Goulburn River to handpick from the grove's 1200 trees. The first picking resulted in a robust oil made from Correggiola olives.

This oil displays sharp Australian features, exhibiting grassy overtones and peppery characteristics. The second picking produced Nagambie Gold's "Premium Blend." Frantoio and Manzanilla olives were crushed together (rather than blending afterwards) and the result has been very impressive.

The "Premium Blend" boasts chocolate and butterscotch flavours. With its peppery, hazelnut finish it is reminiscent of a late harvest Spanish Koroneiki oil. Nagambie Gold Extra Virgin Olive Oil is unfiltered from handpicked olives, to find out where you can purchase our product click here.

A Guide to Olive Oil

Double Line

The oil was also mentioned in "A Guide to Olive Oil" published in The Age's Epicure on Tues, September 21, 2004.

Gavan and Leon checking the harvest

Our oil was selected on blind tasting as one of the top 4 oils in the $20-$24 per 500ml price range from more than 50 popular oils sold in Australia.

As a result of this article we have now sold all the oil we produced in our 2004 season. However it is still available at many of the retail outlets that I have mentioned both in Nagambie and Melbourne. This season the oil was only available in 375ml bottles which retailed at $15.

We did fill several requests for 4 litre tins and will be looking at this again this coming season.

As you can see from the photos of olives the 2005 season is looking particularly good as we have a much larger crop of olives than in previous years.

We are planning to harvest the olives, depending on the weather, at the end of May.

Again we plan to have our olives processed by Sam Trovatello at Kyneton Olive Oil at Kyneton in Victoria.
